Epic/Tier Armor Sets Blizzard has currently created 4 distinct 8 piece sets for each class in fact, each harder to obtain then the last.

Tier 0.5 : The second of these consists of 4 pieces of rare gear, and 4 pieces of epic gear.

Tier 1 : The third of these sets, almost exclusively obtained at level 60, is found entirely within Molten Core. This set is generally referred to as the "Tier 1" set, and all pieces of this set are "Epic" quality (Purple in color).
